Took an unfinished door from Lowes that had deep gashes and claw marks from an old roommate’s husky digging and chewing at it.

and sanded with an 100 grit and 80 grit, puttied, charded with a blow torch, sanded, torched spots that needed heavier sanding again, sanded with a 320 grit, heated and oiled (extra heat helped the oil soak in great).

So far really loving the feel, it’s almost like a super well-kept gun stock feel to it, even the rougher bits.

Thinking about sealing it with either shellac or just using wax. Biased towards wax at the moment because the chared wood and oil just feels awesome, and if I can keep it from rubbing off on anyone that touches it, then it’s golden to me.

So far I’ve just been cleaning it with more rags and mineral oil trying to get the unembeded carbon off.
