It is now mandatory but lots of people still don’t have access to a collect point. Some progress have been made in 2023 but it is far from being enough for the whole population to start separating compostables.

For most people around me there is no difference in the way they handle their waste and many are not even aware of this regulation.

    Ce mensonge du compost faussement obligatoire me fascine. Tous les petits média le relait en boucle sur les fils d’actualité depuis de le début de l’année.

    Au début je pensais juste que c’était de l’incompétence journalistique, mais cette fake news a tellement la vie dure que j’en fini par me demander si ce n’est pas un mensonge délibéré, pour alimenter le mythe de “l’écologie punitive”.

    Donc, au cas où il y ait des personnes de bonne foi qui me lisent: Non le compostage n’est pas obligatoire. C’est la mise à disposition d’un système de collecte du compost par les communes qui l’est devenu. Et encore la date a été repoussé pour un temps. Comment pourrait on imposer le compostage alors qu’il n’y a aucune infrastructure pour ?

    I’m in Southern Germany and similar rules got rolled out here last year. For me, it turned out to be quite cool.

    The multi-home house, that I live in, organized shared bins, so that’s two larger bins for 16 families, which get emptied every two weeks. Which means this collection is practically free and the janitor brings out those bins on collection day, so I don’t have to think of it.

    It also practically cut my non-recycled waste in half (in particular due to paper towels), which I do have to pay for and which I have to bring out and back in myself.

      I hope it like become as easy for french people as it is for you. For now, despite the law being passed, we don’t much more access to composting point so we are still far away from most people starting to compost.
