Hi there.
I’m using this unit here: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09YNBHR73
The issue I am having is subwoofers and not having a lot of money to fix my situation.
I currently have that 3 x 8" ported Skar box, but it has such low impedance that the speaker safety trips constantly on it. Godzilla help me if someone says a word with a p in it.
Is there a way for me to rewire that setup to gain more impedance and stop it from cutting off or should I move on and get a single 12" for the small box I have? (I have a behind the seat single 12" enclosure.)
I’d obviously love to have bass as deep as possible, but any options would be nice.
Thanks
You’ll never get deep bass with 8’s, so yes, a 12 would be the better option if that’s what you ultimately want.
As far as an amp kicking off, it could be a bad ground but it’s probably just not designed for a lot of power. Finding a balance between clean power to maximize the sound output and not damaging the speaker is always a challenge.

Yeah, I figured this was the case on those, but they were free. So maybe they can suffice until a new sub could be acquired.

It might be that these speakers are wired in such a way that they come out to be 1.3Ohm. Which is below the amp’s “rating”. Optimally I’d want to be between 2-8Ohms for this amp. Either 4-6Ohm being “optimal” as far as I can tell.
You could wire the woofers in series to up the impedance, and see how that sounds. I think that would get you to 6ohms, which is safe for a home system. You will lose some power in such a setup, but it might be okay.
As for the 12”, you could tell me more about it, like the volume and port details and I could recommend some woofers that will work well with the box.
So let me try and rationalize this because this Skar box setup is weird.
This must be how it is wired currently because it does show 1.3Ohm on my multimeter.
And I’d want to do what is shown in the 3x speaker example on this?

It is a non-ported, angled, behind the seat “truck box”. This is the speaker that I found in it: https://www.pioneerelectronics.com/PUSA/Car/Subwoofers/Shallow+Mount/TS-SW124D
It was 100% blown, sadly. :(
Yes, like the 3x, but a little tricky for dvc subs. Parallel to the voice coils and series between the woofers. That would be 3ohms I think, which would work better, if the fosi can handle 3ohms.
This is the chart for the amp here:
I have the 32v 5amp power box for it so that’s the line that matters.
Looks like 3ohms would be borderline, but might still work.
Will the box handle a full depth woofer, or just low profile? Can you estimate the volume of the box?
Edit: I would say that a ported box of 8s would probably be equivalent to a sealed box of 1 12”
Oh, sorry.
Box dimensions: 13" bottom depth
8 1/2" top depth
14 1/2" width
13" height
Measured from the outside.
Material is 5/8" thick MDF
Thanks, I will look into it tomorrow. How much would you spend on the 12”?
Around $100ish would be ideal. Has Cerwin-Vega been enshittified yet?
I get .885 cubic feet, which limits the number of 12" subs that will work with it. Of the home hifi subwoofers that I would use in one of my projects, only https://www.parts-express.com/Dayton-Audio-RSS315HO-4-12-Reference-Series-HO-Subwoofer-4-Ohm-295-466 fits the bill, but it is more than you wanted to spend. This car sub would also work, but it is about the same price: https://www.parts-express.com/Kicker-CompRT-12-12-DVC-Subwoofer-4-Ohm-267-614. I know you can find car subs elsewhere for $100 or less, but they often don’t give you enough specs to determine what size box that is appropriate, like this https://www.amazon.com/Skar-Audio-IX-12-D2-Subwoofer/dp/B00NHVC7TG/ref=sr_1_3 Car subs are also optimized for gobs of power, meaning they are not very loud, so the more modest power provided by the Fosi might not be adequate.
I was just thinking, if you got this box (https://www.amazon.com/Single-Subwoofer-Universal-Speaker-Enclosure/dp/B00IFEGB3I/ref=sr_1_5) with the Cerwin Vega 12" sub, you would get so much more bass.
