this is the rare valid application of the single point sling
Thanks. Any recommendation on a specific one?
I’ve never used one myself so I don’t have any recommendations, sorry. I had an AR pistol that I was using a two point on but I took it apart because the ATF keeps changing its mind and I’d rather not tempt fate
I still prefer a 2-point sling for AR-style pistols. It’s easier to brace if you have the front sling mount right in front of your support hand to push on. Blue Force Gear Vickers sling is quality. You might still be able to sign up for the cop/military discount without having to provide proof on their website. The quick adjust feature is nice for using this bracing method.
That said, I would not get a 223/556 this short ever. First and foremost, I doubt it would function reliably with such little dwell time. The fireball and recoil will be awful. I think even 10.5" is a bit too short for that caliber. You aren’t even getting enough speed to get good tumbling and fragmentation on impact. It’s a total waste of what that cartridge was designed for. You’d just making a .22" little hole in your target.
Why not get a 300 blackout or pistol-caliber carbine? Those cartridges are designed for barrels that short and they make bigger holes.
If you just want a cheap AR, there are much better options for that price.

Damn it never occurred to me to do that.
thanks for all the good tips, but it’s too late I already bought it… if it’s not reliable though, I will return it and try the 300 blackout. I will also give Blue Force Gear Vickers sling a serious look. Thanks again.
Ah well, it should still go bang and be fun. Heavier ammo tends to work better for small barrels. Open tip, hollow points, soft points, bonded soft points will do a bit more for defensive or hunting purposes.
And for the sling, do you know how you’ll mount it in the back? You could replace that back plate with one that has a QD mount. I think there are clamp-on options too. IDK there’s probably other creative ways.
thanks for the backplate w/ QD mount tip, I wish it would have came with it though, looks like a bit of a pain to install
I asked Microsoft’s AI a few questions and one answer was this: https://i.imgur.com/28Zr8JN.png

thanks and sorry, but my screenshot app uploads only to imgur
This is one where you could go single or two point. I believe the magpul sling can do both so maybe that one. Are you going to use a brace with it or just the buffer tube? Also why did you decide on a 5inch barrel?
I won’t be using a brace for now. And 5inch because it is shorter and easier to carry (sucks to lose that velocity though). I’ll take a look at the magpul sling, thanks.
If you’re not going to use a brace then maybe a dedicated single point would be better since you could use the push method to aim.
thanks a lot for the tips, but if you dont mind, I would like to ask an unrelated question… I don’t really understand the “they” pronoun for a single person… what does that mean and when should I use it? I am not sexist or anything like that…
