I’m looking for something can put on top of an existing table that would turn it into a nice surface to play a boardgame on? I’ve looked and I see a lot of poker table toppers, but not as much stuff for general purpose boardgaming.

In support of this suggestion, most dining tables are already too tall to comfortably play a board game where you want to see behind standing pieces. That’s why board game tables tend to use leaves that indent downward. All solutions that add height to the table make the problem worse, especially for members of your playgroup with lower sitting height. So I’m a big proponent of the playmat solution

We use about 2 square metres of thick orange felt. Folded in half and onto the table.

Makes picking up cards easy, and also gives silent dice rolls.

Doesn’t look professional, but we play with friends and family, so it’s perfect.

Was a leftover from a Book Week Lorax costume. Get some off the bolt at any fabric shop.
