If I go to https://kbin.social/magazines/ it shows the “hot” tab by default, and they’re all pretty busy with lots of comments, threads, microblogs and subscribers. I go to /newest and yeah they’re almost all empty, I’d expect that. But under /hot they’re also almost all empty or nigh-on empty, which seems to be exact opposite of hot… unless it means they’re radioactive and no-one wants to go there!

Is this something I’m doing wrong, something the site currently has malformed, or something else?

I think the thing is that “creating the magazine” ends up getting counted as “an action” and therefore “active” so it ends up being very similar to /newest.

Huh, that’s… not very helpful. I guess it would be more useful to count actions over a longer period rather than just whichever magazines had the most recent single action, but that might be programmatically expensive

I haven’t actually looked at the code, but that’s my hunch of what’s going on. It was probably more useful back when a lot of magazines weren’t being created.
