Amazon has taken over Europe. After a 20-year-long expansion, supercharged during Covid-19, the US giant is now by far the dominant e-commerce company in Germany, the UK, France, Italy and Spain. In these countries, Amazon is the main port of call for online shoppers. That has made the company nearly unavoidable for independent sellers that wish to sell their products online. This gives Amazon immense power to set abusive terms and extract ever-increasing fees from sellers.
Yeah I always try and order anywhere except Amazon. I’m just anti-monopoly personally.
Same. Now, it’s more then a year that I don’t buy on Amazon (technically less if I consider one purchase I made for my dad, but that wasn’t my choice) and I also don’t use Prime Video.
I’m also trying to avoid using Google products. For example in September/October I started using You.com as my only search engine before moving to Qwant. I’ve also started using Proton as email provider, but it’s difficult to migrate all the accounts.
The EU can’t and shouldn’t really take direct action against Amazon as a company. The Digital Markets Act however, taking effect later this year and starting to be enforced over the next, is specifically targeting these abusive practices.
I’ve been boycotting Amazon since forever
I will happily pay slightly more to order a product from somewhere other than Amazon. Fuck Amazon, and fuck Jeff Bezos.
At least in Germany they tend to offer worse prices on average and absolutely everyone tells everyone to use price comparison websites.
Well I can’t say that I don’t always order everything from Amazon either. It’s just crazy how convenient it is
This is a good website.
