Is it worth the effort to make custom cables, or should I just work on better cable management?

I don’t make my own. I ordered from modDIY.com. Came in quick and exactly to spec.

I’d recommend finding the exact length you need by searching online, then ordering to spec. It’ll make your life a lot easier.

How concerned do I need to be about pinout if I go through a supplier like modDIY? My understanding is that it’s not recommended to mix and match PSU cables from multiple manufacturers.

Not sure what you mean by “worth” here, it’s a bit of tedious work, the other day I stumbled on an YT comment response saying author spent around 8 hours making a motherboard 24pin cable, I’d say it’s worth it if you absolutely need it, dude’s cables were perfect length and shape tho

I just got done making sleeved cables for a fightstick, so I’m not afraid of the tedium. Just concerned about burning my build up.

I think the only way you can burn your stuff is by wiring your cables wrong, so testing twice it thrice would be enough, it’s not 12VHPWR cable, right?

I got mine from pslate, 10/10 would buy again. Shipping to Europe was my only issue, apparently USPS sucks ;)

I have seen news about custom cables catching fire. I’d day stick with good quality cable unless you are absolutely sure about what you are doing.

Wow, I’ve heard of other cable issues, but not custom cable fires. Sounds like something like measuring for ModDIY-created cables might be the best route. I’ve made cables before but never tried PSU sleeving.

Thanks for the recommendation, I’ll definitely try to check them out. I’m not averse to cable sleeving but it seems a bit riskier for PSUs.

Typically no. If you have a reputable company(dreambig by Ray and pslate custom are often recommended) you’re “probably” ok safety wise.

But they usually cost a fair bit for good quality.

I’ve never made my own(i dont trust myself) and just rely on my cabling skill to hide things away… On some occasions my efforts have been less successful than others but I got better and the only cost was my free time.
