I’m a fully mobile user, so that limits my options. I don’t just want to delete my account but also delete my posts and comments.
I was mostly shitposting but still had some 200k Karma so it could pinch Reddit a bit to remove that but it won’t hurt users or Google search since I wasn’t doing anything ‘productive’ or ‘helpful’.
Log in in the mobile site. Yes, it’s trash, but you can do it through old.reddit.com so it’s a bit more tolerable.
Then use this script. It asks you to “drag” the button because it was made for desktop, but I think that copying it and pasting it in the address bar and then using enter could also work. It’s just javascript.
Then it’s up to you; if you just want to delete it, it should be rather obvious what to do, based on the options of the script. If however you want to replace your content with random gibberish, I got a tutorial for you here.
Sorry for not being able to help you further than that, it’s just that I usually do this sort of stuff through a computer. But hopefully people who use mobile more often can chime in.
Thank you for your help. I was able to delete everything in the end.
I used Redact, which has an Android version available if that’s what you’re using. An iOS version is planned. I use it on my computer.
I ended up using it as well and it worked wonders. Took about 25 minutes to delete 7 years of data
Question. Doesn’t reddit or archive sites still have the posts and comments even after this wipe is done?
Reddit itself shouldn’t and they can’t keep the content you created and deleted because that would be against GDPR. The various archives sites can be used to still find it though.
Ah didn’t know. I tried to use redact to delete. It only went into chat and did nothing. If I delete posts and comments manually it’s gone right? What about AI peeps who already got my old posts? Do they legally have to delete that as well? (I hope Lemmy doesn’t let 3rd parties use our content).
I used Redact as well and it wiped everything. Posts and comments alike.
They have to delete it as well but you have to contact them and request it.
