The federated nature exacerbates this to be sure, but I think the main problem at the moment is just lack of content in general. It will take time for the communities to grow. There is an Xbox mag here (https://kbin.social/m/Xbox), but you might be better served by following the bigger gaming mag for now (https://kbin.social/m/gaming).
Another issue is that kbin federation is wonky due to mitigating new user load, so you can’t see xbox@lemmy.world here, for example. Hopefully @ernest fixes it soon!
Yeah, when you joined a reddit community after the 2010s, most of the popular ones would have some posts as a backlog to jump into. Only very rarely would you get a niche sub that hadn’t had anything posted that week. Kbin’s really just getting started and it’ll take a little while for things to fill out, but I have a lot of hope! The cat and dog photos are starting to roll in already, amyfou is posting regularly to /m/dogs! /m/food has photos and a discussion about cake!
