As we all try to settle into this new community just a friendly reminder to upvote and support your fellow community members! The only way new content will get to the front page is if people upvote it. AND it helps encourage people to submit more content.
Same with comments, upvote people to encourage discussion and participation. Let’s build a supportive and active community together!
No 😠 !!! SCREW YOUR UPVOTES!!!
I upvoted this btw
and an upvote for you
no u!
(but actually you too)
more like YOU!
This is a test!
Don’t forget to SUBMIT CONTENT!
Even if you never did on Reddit; it’s now up to us.
Absolutely!
I think I‘m upvoting more than Reddit already, I‘m excited to be here and wanna share the good vibes.
Enjoy your upvote fellow lemming!
I’m a /refugee here but I think that this place is different…we get/discover ideas by sharing, boosting and speaking to things that we care about not by giving/taking karma points in this place. That paradigm is dead.
My profile is on Lemmy @lemmy.world. I don’t have an option to boost anything. Only upvote and downvote. It’s my understanding that if you interact from mastodon then you can boost.
On kbin there are options to upvote and downvote. The upvotes are related to favorites and boosts are like reblogs in the mastodon scheme. kbin has a unique way to blend the thread style of communication and content with the microblog that is better federated to other Activity Pub server instance types.
Interesting. Thanks for the context
That would be great, but upvoting is what people are used to and I think it would urge people to participate, especially while we’re in this transition period.
What is the difference between boost and an upvote?
@1chemistdown @AnotherPerson Boost is like a retweet on Twitter it shares to your own followers on your instance and upvote is like Reddit. You like there post comment/reply
Also, I don’t think an upvote will be ‘saved’ anywhere for you to reference later? So if you do want to circle back on the content, I guess ‘boost’ is the way to go. I haven’t figured out how to ‘un-boost’ something though
@kobra @AnotherPerson @1chemistdown Yep the boost is only for Mastodon. The upvote is on the instance. You have to manually go there and upvote it. Mastsdon and other instances can only comment, reply and view post. You can’t create, upvote etc…
That explains why I don’t see an option to boost.
@AnotherPerson Yep
Press boost once, it boosts, twice it unboosts
@1chemistdown @AnotherPerson @kobra Could be a bug or hick-up
How to share the posts to my mastodon profile? I don’t have any followers here, so I don’t think boost would do any good.
@kosmicpulse @AnotherPerson @1chemistdown I don’t think you can. I think you can only share within an instance to somebody on that instance. I actually haven’t tried. instance to instance but you can’t do instance to another server. The only way is to get the url of the article/message grab the url and put it in a browser for somebody else and it will take them to what you where doing. I’m not really sure but I think thats kinda how it works
Upvote is just an upvote. Boost pushes the content to your followers.
Cool. For all the people I’ve been hitting boost on, congratulations! I have zero followers. I also hit the upvote too.
If there was the same option I used on Reddit to “hide posts you have upvoted/downvoted” so that I can just upvote/downvote each thing I read and it will be hidden after that, it would be great and my main page would always only show new content.
I think there is. There is an option to hide read posts in user settings on your profile
I always upvote, I’d like to have a history of my upvoted threads though, I sometimes upvoted something that I’d want to show it to someone else, and no I don’t save all the stuff that I want to share lol.
Agreed! Maybe a future feature.
Take my upvote and don’t leave. :)
Would i be kicked if i downvote for funsies?
I guess interacting with the post in any way, be it up or downvoting, is better than just lurking.
