Baptists were always confessional. Only more recently has that been rejected by some baptist circles.
I grew up baptist and was a bit into the “No Creed but Christ” world. But then I found out how rich theologically and how rich historically we have benefited from confessions. 1689 is pretty great. And Philadelphia. And NH Baptist. And even the Baptist faith and message is really good for a big tent org like SBC
