It’s more for down ballot support and building for local politics and ballot measures. Voting in the general, especially president helps gain support which makes it easier for them to have ballot access up and down in future elections.

As Lawrence O’Donnell put it when he was in the Does Not Care he didn’t have to listen to anything on the left because they kept using the excuse “where are you going to go?”. The only way to make them listen is to prove you do have some place to go. 3rd parties.
