Seems to be shaping up nicely.
I’d love to try daily driving this but don’t want to run for example neon unstable all the time in case I hit some show stopping bug. Does anyone know if you could utilize a immutable distro like nix or Kinoite so you could rollback if have problems? It feels like these would be really good for testing.
Not sure if an immutable distro will help you much with that right now. You’d still need someone maintaining Plasma 6 packages for you.
If you’re comfortable with Arch, you could use astOS which is essentially Arch on an immutable root filesystem. Or you could use Neon Unstable on a btrfs filesystem with snapshots, and roll back if something goes wrong. But that’s all quite convoluted if all you want to do is try out Plasma 6.
I think at the moment Plasma 6 is still for developers who are comfortable enough to get themselves out of the mess. Maybe compiling it and trying it out under a different user account for a while is the best way to test it.
Yeah, you’re right. I had assumed maybe plasma 6 packages would be in rawhide or something, but they don’t seem to be. I guess I’ll be patient, not always something I’m best at :)
IIRC there is a COPR from @kdesig providing plasma 6 packages for rawhide, but I haven’t tested it.
Great job!
Really liking the focus on not breaking the user experience for Plasma widget
