It is going a shorter post today.
I had an opportunity to try rarer dishes in a restaurant in the northern part of Krung Thep (Bangkok) today. The main ingredient of this salad is Seablite (locally known as Chakhram), a plant grown in marsh areas around Samut Songkhram province on the southwest of Krung Thep, not very far from the world famous canal market many tourists frequent. The taste is slightly salty, but this will not be noticed much since the salad is spicy, sweet, and sour. Shallot is added to taste, as well as fresh chilli. A dash of coconut milk must be included too.
Usually salad dishes do not have prominent protein sources, but since this dish is on a fancier side, a slice of grilled prawn is here, as well as duck egg, cooked between soft and hard boil, a feat to achieve amongst Thai cuisine chefs.
All in all, this was delicious. If you want to try this, I doubt Seablite is going to be available in the “west”. So, to be sure, visit Thailand, visit Central Thai restaurants, and ask for Chakhram based dishes.
Thanks for reading! Next time I will post more dishes.
