I’ve been enjoying Nexomon- Extinction so far, it’s a sassy game that’s quite fun to play! The game mechanics work as intended and there were only a few things which I questioned before an NPC provided an answer. Leveling up my Nexomon seems like a potential slog though, I’ve gotten used to experience sharing in Pokémon games; I must unlearn this behavior. There are cores which can act like an Exp Share, which is nice because there are two party members that don’t need to hog a large chunk of experience! I’ve been juggling those cores around to passively level up Nexomon which were behind in levels while using stronger creatures to tank damage.

I appreciate the game’s aesthetics because it reminds me of older Pokémon games, while remaining unique. The setting matches up with the desperate situation this world is currently in as there are settlements and camps throughout the land outside of their one big city. Humanity seems to be close to potential extinction. Nexomon Tamers are responsible for desperately keeping the wild Nexomon at bay so others can labor on in safer surroundings. I’m going to keep playing today and get further in! As the need to know what happens next is strong, I felt that similarly with Coromon too.

Frankly, as a old-school Pokémon veteran (Gen1 baby!), I’d be less bothered by the built-in ExpShare function if it didn’t completely fuck with the progression balance. Shit’s not even a challenge anymore. I don’t play Pokémon to catch 'em all; I never have. I play Pokémon to develop a bond with & complete a journey alongside my party, not swap out new party members every other town.

And without a challenge there can’t really be much of a journey to overcome, can there?

@EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted Personally, I catch and evolve as many as possible as I love to collect those creatures! EXP Share did lighten some difficulty in Pokémon games but most of the battles were also under tuned which compounded the issue. There were very few difficult fights in Pokémon games collectively as a result. It’s sad that the Pokémon journey felt like a joyous stroll rather than a real adventure.

Nexomon-Extinction certainly doesn’t pull its punches, rewarding strategy and preparation with an earned victory every time! There are encounters that I’ve barely won because it’s a challenge and every decision matters. Team composition and balance of types is crucial as well. Nexomon-Extinction feels like the Pokémon game that I’ve always wanted but was doomed to never receive because older gamers aren’t the target audience.

Please don’t misunderstand me! I can respect that other players have different play styles than me; I’m just saying I personally have never really gotten into the catching mechanic. Oh, I’ve tried, but it just never really clicked for me.

And Nexomon sounded interesting until I saw that it’s a mobile game. (Yes, it’s on Steam but it’s also on the Play Store, which means PC or not it’s basically a mobile game since it’s limited by the lowest-common denominator in this relationship.) I mean, sure, just because it’s a mobile game doesn’t mean it’s bad, but typically they are chock-full of ads, tracking, and MTX. If Nexomon is not free-to-play and/or doesn’t have all that crap, I’d definitely be more interested. :)

@EveryMuffinIsNowEncrypted The only reason why I’m playing this game is because there are no microtransactions or any garbage associated with mobile games in the PC version. It’s a typical buy once and enjoy game, I’m not a fan of the free to play model especially how many developers choose to implement it. It’s scummy, manipulative generally and that’s something which needs to go away in the gaming space.

Also, I just shared my love for the catching and collecting mechanics because it’s a relaxing thing to do in times of stress for me. I didn’t misunderstand you at all, we all enjoy games differently.

If indeed the PC version is not free-to-play (which, judging by what you’ve said, seems to be the case), I am definitely intrigued.

Also, I…think perhaps I mis-worded myself. I was not trying to insult you or your taste in games. I apologize if I came across that way.

Finished and totally agree, Nexomon Extinction for PC is a well designed catch-em all game with good graphics, monsters, mechanics and a kinda entertaining story.

@DNU I’m close to finishing the game myself, Nexomon- Extinction has been a solid adventure! I have a higher opinion of the story only because the satire really vibes well with me!

Well, tbh I think the story of the game was pretty good, though it’s nothing I still remember. It’s been some time since I finished the game.

@DNU There are games I have fond memories of, but my memory of specific events is all but gone. I usually remember themes more than story details (especially for games I played years ago). I understand your lack of memory associated with Nexomon- Extinction.
