Help the community get started a bit
I try to purchase most of my music, host it myself, but I’ve found myself in a musical rut. Don’t get me wrong, I love my music choices, but what do people recommend? I like a lot of different things, from pop to rock to edm
I’ve found a lot of new music from watching/listening to NPR’s Tiny Desk Concert. Also the recommendations I get from last.fm have been great too.
Oh I love the tiny desk concerts! Regina Spektor’s is one of my absolute favorites
I used to listen to podcasts to find new music. I haven’t in a while so I wouldn’t know which podcasts to recommend, but that probably depends upon your specific tastes too.
If you remember any shoot them over, right now very melodic music, whispy, or general chill. I’ve always wanted to get into the synthwave stuff but didn’t know a good one to start with. Chill vocals, or just things to zone out on
I don’t know if it exactly fits the bill, but the closest thing I can think of is Bittersweet Baby by blackwave. It’s got chill vocals, easy to zone out to and has some funky glitchy stuff near the end of the song.
This is good! I like the glitchy feel, and the mixing of genres
tally hall’s a good choice. it’s got a variety of songs
I like Ratboys - Indie rock with a twinge of country? Here’s one of my favorite songs right now: https://ratboys.bandcamp.com/track/black-earth-wi-2
Check out Eating Us by Black Moth Super Rainbow, and Tender Buttons by Broadcast.
Thanks I’ll check these out :)
I’ve been making a habit of visiting smaller artists’ Spotify profiles to find their own personal playlists. Greg from Cheekface has a few nice playlists that get updated time to time. https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4a8I8hdJbw9BYf4ouaJFCs?si=cFhgUCN0RxO7FHJG3XpVpQ
Gets me outside of the Spotify echo chamber, without going too far for my tastes.
if you want a band recommendation: my favorite band right now is The Brave Little Abacus, an emo band from New Hampshire, really love their stuff. I would personally start with “Just Got Back From the Discomfort – We’re Alright.” it’s their most famous album, and very telling of their musical style.
Oh man this is right out of the 2010s and I love it! Really reminds me of a mix of Smashing Pumpkins and Simple Plan lol
alternatively, if you don’t like emo, Goo by Sonic Youth is a good alt-rock album.
