I think the pebble was one of the first big smart watches, and here is a picture of mine paying tribute to my other hobby, retro computing.
I lost this watch on a skiing trip. Today I am more fascinated by mechanical watches, but I still miss this guy. I think I had the Apple Watch nailed a solid year before Apple. Today I am more fascinated by mechanical watches, but if they still made these I’d buy one in a heartbeat.
Pebble was everything that was right about connected watches. It wasn’t a spy. It didn’t nag you to walk around. It just did what it did and that was passive notifications. I had two, but neither survived very long before the screens would flip out. Everything else that came along afterwards was definitely not my cup of tea and I went back to mechanical and automatic watches.
I miss my pebble to this day! Was such a great smart watch!
I miss my pebble watch. best alarm I ever had. battery was great so you didn’t have to charge at night, so you could sleep with it on; and it peacefully vibrates to wake you up gently, so great.
I loved my Pebbles (red and Time) so much. I’ve moved on to mechanical watches but it was one of my all-time favorites.
OMG, is that a MacOS 6 theme?? I so want that for my Apple Watch.
Yeah! Pretty cool, huh? I love old Macs. I still have a working Macintosh SE/30 next to my “real” computer. I have Excel on there and use it to do my budget every month.
The pebble had so many themes back in the day, but this is the one I rocked most of the time.
That’s so rad. I had a working original Macintosh that I bought at a school sale back in college. I think it’s still in my parents’ garage. Haven’t talked to them in ten years, so I don’t know. One of the few things I wish I could get back from them.
I took an iMac to college with me, and I loved theming out MacOS 9 to the retro OS’s and the other different themes you could use with Appearance manager and Kaleidoscope. That takes me back! :)
I purchased one when it came up. I think there were “smart” watches before it, and it came as an alternative for long battery duration, which was amazing, and also focused in only important stuff to notify. I think it failed because the lack of all the bloat.

I’ve got somewhat mixed feelings about the Pebble. It was great for its time, but it didn’t look that great - esp. the later version with limited colors and huge bezel. Also, I could never be bothered to start development - it felt too much like going back to early MS-DOS days (C, limited memory, …). And finally, there was this graceless death in the middle of a Kickstarter to a version that seemed like a better compromise than the ones before.
Does it play Doom?
The pebble is still my favorite smart watch ever, the escreen and the long battery has not been beaten! I still have mine and still works!
Holy blast from the past. I adored my Pebble Time Steel. When the battery wore I out I switched to a Fitbit Versa but it just wasn’t the same. Sold it and went back to “dumb” watches. The Pebble really was something special.
