And this is why defunding the regulation of critical industries is bad.
Boeing is largely self-regulating on the safety department, which cost hundreds of lives recently.
Is it surprising that a publicly traded company is going to drive down quality to meet (or in spirit areospace’s case - attempt to make) profits?
The union also has clashed with Spirit over whether machinists should ever be responsible for checking their own work. Workers say having separate inspectors sign off on individual work is critical for quality control; Spirit and Boeing executives say that technological advances have reduced the need for separate inspectors in some cases.
Bad bad idea. Do not let machinists sign off on a inspection report. The incentive to hide mistakes is far too great.
Here’s an older podcast episode that was recorded shortly after Max disasters, safety issues were systemically and intentionally ignored: https://podcasts.apple.com/us/podcast/the-whistle-blowers-at-boeing/id1200361736?i=1000436137931
Well yeah we learned with the MCAS crashes that when they bought McDonnell Douglas they actually bought the toxic profits over everything else culture too.
This is not news. Boeing needs a microscope shoved down it’s throat if we’re to continue letting them make planes.
McDonnell bought Boeing with Boeing’s money.
That seems to be how it actually played out yeah.
That is a ridiculous statement, it’s probably also true 🙄.
