The vehicles have a specific battery pack made by LG Energy Solution and were manufactured before March 11, 2022. Vehicles built after this date don’t have these battery packs and aren’t included in the recall.
This one is interesting. As far as I understand it, the only possible real fix is to replace the entire battery pack. Audi has stated they don’t have a fix available yet. Audi also said it’s working on a temporary stop gap which will be a software update that can warn if the battery pack is becoming unsafe. And even that software update temporary fix isn’t ready yet.
Replacing the batteries on affected etrons is going to cost them (Audi and/or LG) a fortune. The 2019 etrons have already depreciated by more than half of their retail value, too. It makes me wonder if it almost makes sense to total them.
That’s quite the fuck up. I imagine there have been some heated meetings at Audi.
Absolutely. And at Porsche, VW, and Chevy. Basically any manufacturer that was using those LG battery bags before 2022.
So…
Hyundai, Kia, GM, and now Audi have had these recalls.
Was anyone else using these LG pouch cells?
