They feel really loose, rattly, and mushy. The X button gets stuck very frequently and I can’t tell why. I suspect it’s either that the button is hooking on the frame when fully pressed, or the membrane itself is sticky for some reason and reluctant to pop back out. The B button also makes me worry, but it hasn’t gotten stuck yet.

I’m considering taking the deck apart to look at the buttons from the inside.

With that in mind:

  1. Do other people feel this way about their OLEDs? Is this an issue ore just how the deck is?
  2. If you’ve had this issue as well, how have you dealt with it?
  3. Are the LCD-model teardown tutorials still valid for OLED models?
  4. Do hardware mods exist on the market that might allow me to replace the current buttons with better ones, or possibly to convert to from membrane to dome switches?

Thanks to anyone willing to help.

I wouldn’t describe any of my LCD or OLED Deck’s buttons as loose or rattly. I could maybe see calling them mushy, but that hasn’t bothered me any. I would personally prefer “softer” buttons to loud or clicky buttons.

Stuck buttons are definitely a defect, and will be covered under warranty. Extremerate makes a clicky button upgrade kit for the LCD deck, but it doesn’t officially support the OLED deck. I’ve heard the buttons from that kit remind people of clicking a pen as far as feedback goes. If you’re really bothered by the feeling of the buttons, you might want to try to get an OLED version of this kit if it’s annouced.

I actually find it odd how loose my face buttons feel in contrast to the D-pad, which feels perfectly fine- mushy yet responsive and firmly fixed in place. It might slide around a little if you make it, but it’s not loose in the slightest.

Would you say that is how the face buttons are actually supposed to be? Because that would actually be pretty nice to have.

Yeah, there’s probably something wrong with your button assembly. Your d-pad on the other side is separate and is probably a better example of how things should be.
