I have had this strange behavior randomly happen in the last 6-8 weeks I would guess. It took a couple of times for me to figure out it was happening on disconnecting from my car, as I’m typically going straight from unplugging directly to my back pocket with the phone when I get out of the car. Once I pull the phone out of my pocket to use it, it asks for my pin since it restarted. I did do a factory reset of the phone and it still happens and still just as randomly. I did the factory reset about 5 days before the June feature drop and it’s happened once after that as well. I’m sorta lost on what would be causing this. Any ideas?

You mean after unplugging from your car’s Android Auto? I’ve noticed this behavior before, where I take my phone out of my pocket and it asks me for my PIN and then has to boot into the phone again. It is completely random for me and doesn’t seem to be related to Android Auto though.

If it’s happening after unplugging from Android Auto consistently it may be related.

Yes, when I unplugged from the car while using Android Auto, it rebooted.

I have randomly had the phone ask for the pin after a reboot without even being in my car that day, and I thought that this is what was happening until I actually saw it go into a reboot in my hand the moment I unplugged it from the car/Android Auto.

It may still be doing it without Android Auto being connected, but it certainly did on at least a couple of occasions.

I did a factory reset about 5 days prior to the June update. I’ve witnessed this happen once prior to the factory reset and once after the June update.

The factory reset was done in hopes of fixing whatever was going on with this random reboot on unplugging from AA, and other random reboots while not unplugging from AA as well as random transfers from my phone to my Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 while in the middle of a call. This has happened many times while connected to AA as well as while just sitting at my desk. Apparently the factory reset did not fix either issue as they’ve both happened prior to as well as after both the factory reset and June update.

This seems like an entirely different issue. It may be worth looking into to see if there’s a bug reported on Android’s bugtracker, I’m sure Google is aware of the issue, maybe it will be fixed in Android 14.

I will look into that, thank you for the suggestion. The random reboots are annoying, but the Bluetooth call swaps to my watch are super inconvenient and a pain to deal with, especially when I’m on a call with a customer troubleshooting when it decides to do it.

Make sure to submit device logs when you do have issues. Google does monitor these when you send them up!

Go to Settings > About phone > Send feedback about this device (at the bottom)

That’s the best way to go about getting these issues resolved. Sorry I couldn’t be of more assistance!

Thanks for the guidance and assistance! I just sent a report, including logs into Google. That couldn’t have been much easier. Hopefully they can figure something out.
