Important to remember only 3200 subs originally committed to the blackout. We had almost 3x that number join. More than 2x are still dark!

    I was anti emoji on reddit for a while because for a long time they just flat didn’t work on the web. Reddit was browser based before any apps were available, before smart phones were even really a thing except for blackberries. Even once smartphones were more popular, there was no guarantee a Samsung phone had the same emoji as a Nexus or a Windows phone or an iPhone, and then if the emoji technically existed it might convey a totally different meaning, while on the web you’d just get an [obj] block or something. Meanwhile, ;-) and ಠ⁠_⁠ಠ and (⁠╯⁠°⁠□⁠°⁠)⁠╯⁠︵⁠ ⁠┻⁠━⁠┻ works everywhere.

    Now that emoji work on desktop I don’t really care. ¯⁠\⁠_⁠(⁠ツ⁠)⁠_⁠/⁠¯🤷‍♂️
