I use gmail but I’m looking to find another free provider to move. I’ve considered proton or tutonota but neither seem to support thunderbird without payment.

I’m probably too stubborn for my own good, but I self-host my email. Thanks to that, I have a continuous Thunderbird archive from around 2002 or so with no email loss. I use pop3 on my mail account, though I use IMAP sometimes on things that I don’t care so much about for archival.

My email setup is configured with a suit called Sympl, which makes it easy to get everything right, including stuff like DKIM, spam filtering and so on.
