What is your EDC (Every Day Carry) for pirating? You can be as specific or as general as you want.
For me, a newb, it is my GP6a.mostly have YMusic (download music/vids) and Tachiyomi(download manga/comics).

Check you quality profiles, and filesize setting.
This used to happen to me. Now I have a setting for either 1080/2k and 15gb max file size and if that doesn’t get hits I set it to any or 720 and take whatever it gives.
I started using a rbp3 with librelect or whatever and had trouble with playback. So I moved to a used mini office PC off eBay and use Kodi on Ubuntu or fedora. (Ubuntu has easier access to some of kodis packages.) I had to build some packages for fedora Kodi addons. Windows would probably be easiest but I find it harder to navigate with a miniremote.
