Bezalel Smotrich, Israel’s far-right finance minister, has said that he was given assurances that the war on Gaza would continue and Israel would launch a “gradual takeover of the entire Gaza Strip”.
Smotrich said that Gaza was currently “ruined and disintegrated, uninhabitable” an that it would “remain that way”.
He added: “Don’t be impressed by the forced joy of our enemy. This is an animalistic society that sanctifies death. Very soon, we will erase their smile again and replace it with cries of grief and the wails of those who were left with nothing.”
Netanyahu said in a video address on Saturday that Israel would continue its war on Gaza in “new, forceful ways” if the second stage of the ceasefire agreement proved to be “futile”.
“President [Donald] Trump and President Biden have given full backing to Israel’s right to return to combat if Israel concludes that negotiations on Phase B are futile.”
I’m not saying he’s better in general.
But, on this specific one thing he is better, and that is only because Biden is a blood soaked monster that didn’t care about the genocide enough to make a single phone call.
Israel is a client state that is wholly dependant on free US weapons and money. Israel has received a third of ALL the cumulativw foreign aid that the US has given out over its lifetime.
Threatening to turn the free weapons and money spigot off is enough to compel Israel to do what the US wants. This is why Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and Bush Jr. were able to that exact thing.
Biden chose not to end the genocide. Hamas has accepted this deal since February.
At any point in time Biden could have picked up the phone and ended this. He made the choice not to and is responsible for every dead refugee and dead IDF soldier since then.
There is nothing difficult about any of this moral calculus at all.
EDIT: and to be clear, I didn’t think Trump would be better. I thought he would be as bad. But we have a temporary peace deal that we didn’t before. Israel, the country that raped multiple Gazan hospital administrators to death, stopped bombing civilian refugees.
