      Absolutely! People love being reminded of violent, multigenerational, cultural traumas. Best though to go all out and ask about their family history with An Gorta Mór and their feelings on Lizzy the First’s appreciation of Irish musical heritage. /s

      While not a citizen, I have deep roots.

      My maternal grandparents were Irish. (Paternal Scottish, and we all know they’re not exactly kind to invaders either.)

      My great grandmother was Cumann na mBan

      I have a rather large extended family in Dublin and Tralee that goes back … forever.

      I’m damn proud of our fierce pride and rebellion.
