Sorry if this is a dumb question, but how important is using one of the encrypted DNS services from the megathread? I’ve just been using Google’s DNS servers directly on my router, and have yet to have any issues. Have I just been lucky?

The major benefit is that it helps limit your ISP from tracking your internet activity. Some browsers are now offering to implement secure DNS lookups for you, but this basically just puts them in the role of tracking your activity instead of your ISP. Best is if you can implement secure DNS at your router, and simply have all your lookups encrypted in transit. Search for “Secure DNS Client over HTTPS (DoH)” or “DNS over TLS” for your particular use case.
