Dynamic island is just a way to hide their ugly notch
deleted by creator
It’s a really innovative way to integrate it into the UI.
Apple’s approach to notches has always been “extend the screen up into the bezel” rather than “lower the bezel into the screen”.
The most obvious example (or easiest to explain) is with the MacBook Pro, where the screen is their classic 16:10 not counting the status bar. And their approach to the iPhone is no different.
And the dynamic island just takes that to the next level.
And I say all of this as an Android user. I much prefer Android to iPhone, but I’m not afraid to acknowledge when Apple gets it right.
Yeah but a massive ugly notch still isn’t as good as a punch hole or no hole at all. As for laptops I’m honestly fine with some bezels if it means a better experience, having the webcam be separate from the screen is apart of that.
Uggh, I hate the screen extending into the bezel. Makes it messy and cluttered.
reading the article, it doesn’t even seem like a dynamic island problem. the author is complaining that they are unable to quickly glance and what notifications they have without pulling the notification shade down, which would have happened whether the island is there or not. iOs has never done that, even when displays were squared off with no cutout. article feels clickbaity and complaining about nothing
