The conservative mind believes in the tabula rosa concept that children have no agency and are vessels for adults to fill with knowledge, culture, and morals. Therefore new social ideas and change must therefore be a conspiracy to trick the young.

Probably a reference to ‘common core’, a new way to teach arithmetic developed by mathematicians and educators geared less toward rote memorization and more toward intuitive understanding of numbers and patterns.
