LCD, or drop an extra €150 for the OLED?

Might be a few weeks off, but I’m tempted to get one

Oled for sure I have 2 lcd steam decks one for my son 256 and my 512 I gave my wife. The difference in battery, the joysticks, better thermals, and screen are worth it.

I have taken the 512 q2 steam deck apart several times to fix various issues with the og design. They took all the major complaints and addressed them mine included.

At the hardware changes to the inside and the screen go oled, it runs more efficiently than the lcd. Plus it gets about 3 to 5% boost in most games in fps.

There is no point on getting the older model if you can afford it. They revised several key points of the original and doubled the storage for only 30% more.

I upgraded to the OLED model specifically for battery life reasons. I was getting 1.25-1.75 hours on the original model from games like assassin’s creed odyssey and mad max. The OLED model is getting 2.5+ hours. The battery life is important to me as I use the SD on my daily commute. The screen quality is better but I wouldn’t call it game changing, the higher refresh rate is potentially very useful depending on the games you plan to play. All this is to say that it really depends on how you plan to use the SD and what games you plan to play. I recommend the OLED overall.

As someone who has the LCD 256 and went for the base OLED… it’s a much larger upgrade than steam is making it out to be. The buttons feel better, the battery life is almost an hour longer across the board for all my games, it’s quieter, cooler and just a solid upgrade. If it’s your first one just go OLED, there’s no regrets. Storage is easy to upgrade down the road

Just bought a OLED one, I highly recommend to go the OLED directly, OLED is just looks like more modern more fantastic in any vision, LCD will never reach this kind of display specs, and I also recommend to choose glare because of true dark viewing and transparency and clarity, but need to avoid the high concentrate light environment.

I bought the launch 512 LCD and loved the hell out of everything it had to offer. My girlfriend wanted one, so I upgraded and gifted her my first and now have the 1tb OLED (both with no issues) and gotta say I am really blown away by the difference.

-Battery life is a huge upgrade and I’m getting 2x on most of my games.

-The screen is my first OLED and I’m in love with no light bleed on the corners and the blacks feeling that deep.

-The WiFi chip made a big difference for downloads and remote play together.

-The weight reduction really surprised me and was noticeable immediately.

-Games feel more responsive too, not sure if that placebo but maybe it’s the increased HZ rate.

You’ll have a great time either way. The OLED is a nice upgrade if you’ve got the extra change but the LED is a fantastic little machine.
