They did this for a while now in Trackmania. It is easy to implement there tbh (big boards in the stadium) but they should still rot in hell like anyone else trying to further enshittificate the web.
You can disable the Trackmania ads in the settings (assuming you’re not on the f2p tier)
Yes i know, you can even disable targeted advertising on free tier so you get generic ads iirc. Still not a fan of ubisoft or advertising in general.
Tbf I’m pretty sure racing games having ads on the billboards around the arena is incredibly far from a new invention.

Well, if you play Steep, The Crew 2 or whatever their successors are called, i wouldn’t call it terribly shocking. In fact, honestly, I think it would fit really well with the actual game. Instead of fake sponsors, well, you get real ones! My main problem with that of course, is the slippery slope of actual, real world sponsors getting pissy that players want to wear their own custom designs and not the official sponsor logos. And then they make sponsored gear with in-game bonuses and we have this capitalist nightmare… I’m guessing this is what we’re gonna get, isn’t it?
*sigh*
On the plus side, I can always vote with my wallet.
And we already found out why: they are giving away some Assassins Creed Version at the moment- for free
We found out why: to see if people would accept it so they can put 3rd party ads in their games next. Infinite growth is what investors expect!
I don’t play Ubisoft games so I don’t really care
Yeah because when one company does something shitty to make more money, other companies definitely don’t copy it. So as long as you don’t buy products from the first company, there’s no way it’ll ever affect you…right??? Big brain thinking
Well, if you avoid the games with ads, it reflects poorly on profits, and maybe someone might mention to the shareholders that the reason people won’t play their game is the invasive ads.
The reason why they still have their poopy launcher is that people adapted them, because tolerating the launcher was the requirement for them to (legally) play their games. Putting games behind a launcher did not teduce the profits enough to not continue doing so.
So yes, the way to combat this is to avoid their games thst implement ads.
I mean, this is literally my strategy. I’m okay not buying games from companies who utilize revenue tactics I don’t agree with. Some will adopt in game ads and a lot won’t. I’m pretty confident in my stable of devs that probably won’t have to drop them. And if I’m wrong? Oh well. They don’t get my money.
There’s a difference between avoiding companies like Ubisoft (I do as well) and not caring that they’re doing it
Wow, you are really aggressive. Maybe work on your Reddit-Attitude.
