Organic Maps is an Android & iOS offline maps app for travelers, tourists, hikers, and cyclists based on top of crowd-sourced OpenStreetMap data and curated with love by MapsWithMe founders.

Features

Organic Maps is the ultimate companion app for travelers, tourists, hikers, and cyclists:

  • Detailed offline maps with places that don’t exist on other maps
  • Cycling routes, hiking trails, and walking paths
  • Contour lines, elevation profiles, peaks, and slopes
  • Turn-by-turn walking, cycling, and car navigation with voice guidance
  • Fast offline search on the map and bookmarks
  • Dark Mode to protect your eyes

Why Organic?

Organic Maps is pure and organic, made with love:

  • Respects your privacy
  • Saves your battery
  • No unexpected mobile data charges

Organic Maps is free from trackers and other bad stuff:

  • No ads
  • No tracking
  • No data collection
  • No phoning home
  • No annoying registration
  • No mandatory tutorials
  • No noisy email spam
  • No push notifications
  • No crapware
  • No pesticides

I been using organic maps and OSMand. Both are great but organic has a more simple interface and has a much better search.

I’m late to this party I know, but…

One thing I miss very much from a different system some years ago, is to be able to specify what type of route you’d like to take. Sometimes you just need to get from A to B, sure, but sometimes, maybe especially when walking or biking, you’d like to avoid some things (e.g. traffic) or to use a route with particular features (flattest, most scenic, etc.).

Looking at an area around my home, it shows truly wonderful places and interesting routes I did not know about. I will have to take my bicycle to explore those a bit someday soon.

I’ve read about this recently on hackernews, many people liked it. Is this a brand new project, I had never heard of it…?

I think it is, I’ve been trying it for the last week and it’s actually nice. And it also motivated me to actually contribute more to OSM by adding business infos (phone #, business hours, website, etc) on the places where I live.

Not sure what could be the cause, are you using a custom Android ROM?
