I’ll be honest I do not understand why people want wireless charging? It just seems worse than wired. Is it faster in some way?
Having the option of sealing off all entry from water is very useful. Many folks have family that try inserting cables diagonally. Anyone working in very dusty or humid climates.
Fast charging is actually really hard on batteries… I intentionally disable fast charging. I want to delay dendrites as much as possible.
If you get quality wireless charging gear, it’s very reliable.
Adding a ring of magnets to your case to become magsafe compatible also nearly eradicates alignment problems.
It’s just an option. I prefer any phone that costs over a certain amount to have some form of alternate charging than just the one cable. I am the nerd for a large household that used to destroy usb ports and cables all the time, drop phones in water, get tons of lint or worse in the USB port etc… Most of those issues are nearly gone with Qi.
It’s all about priorities. Mine are better served with the option than not.
It’s convenient. I have a stand at my desk I just place it on when I sit down.
Also one in my living room. Charges both my Android and my wife’s iphone. But I guess that’s not a problem anymore soon.
I have the 9 Pro and I only ever used wireless charging when I first got the phone. It was a cool gimmick for a couple weeks. Now I just plug in my phone when I need to charge it. It’s faster and more reliable. The only use my wireless charger gets now is when my boyfriend comes over and needs to charge his phone overnight, because he has an iPhone and I don’t have any lightning cables.
My OnePlus Open is supposed to arrive this week and I’m not going to miss wireless charging one bit. I can’t even remember the last time I used it.
Fr, it’s just a gimmick feature, it’s not wireless, it’s “wireless”. It just looks wireless, but really they just shifted the wires to the back of the phone to a contact plate and called it a day.
Until I can just walk into a room and my phone starts charging (or at least within a foot or 2 of range), it’s not wireless.
No they didn’t? Mine has no contacts, and still works with a phone case on it. So it’s somewhat wireless. Just not much range.
I didn’t mean it literally, but functionally, it might as well be renamed “contact” charging.
Sure it has a tiny insignificant “range” just enough to make it through some cases, but even then some cases still need additional built-in wiring to “boost” it through.
NFC has better range FFS lmao
Ah ok, so that entirely different technology with an entirely different purpose has a longer range. Got it.
I on the other hand cannot see why people don’t see it as the best invention after sliced bread. I’ve been using wireless charging since '12 and take it for granted now. No wires, no lost chargers, no plugging in, just the pad on my night stand. Full battery everyday without broken usb ports or cables.
I feel like most critique is about not being able to charge fast which is valid. Wireless charging is only convenient at night. If you have an aging phone and your battery can’t get thought the day anymore then wireless charging is not going to help you. I feel like this is actually not a wireless charging problem but more like a battery capacity problem.
Charging overnight actively makes the battery health worse though (overcharging). Wireless charging is also wasteful for electricity because it uses way more power than what is actually going into your phone. Not a big deal for one person but if everyone’s using wireless charging it adds up.
It’s been helpful since my charging port died!
Exactly my point. It’s been branded as a “wireless charging”, but instead it’s just “portless charging”.
How much more convenient is it not have to plug in a cable? And at what cost? Slower, and power wasting charging for the price of not having to spend 1 second putting the plug in.
True wireless charging would be a phone receiving a charge from something like a lightbulb, from anywhere in your room.
It is worse than wired in every way besides convenience, but if you have a faulty charging port it is a lifesaver.
Exactly. I can’t count the number of times my kid has woken up with their phone at 34% raging about how the wireless charging didn’t work. On top of that you have to have the right cable and right pad and right brick or the fast charging doesn’t happen at all.
I could see if the charging ports were still bad micro USB but USBC is pretty damn good imo and the fast charge is incredibly fast. Give me 30% battery increase in 5-7 min over wireless slow charge any day.
There have been a few USB-C devices with failed charging ports in the family.
Yeah looking at u v60 😫
Ya, that’s why I started using wireless. First because the charging port failed and was the only way to charge my phone and now with my new phone so that I don’t wear out the charging port.
