I think Bitwarden has a great mix of user friendliness, security, and convenience, while being open source and having options for self-hosting.

Agree. As a local password storage (and alternative) I use KeepassXC, but very rarely.

KeePassXC on desktop, Keepass2Android on, you guessed it, Android. Still haven’t figured out how to sync across devices efficiently, though.

I sync my database with syncthing and use KeePassXC on desktop and KeePassDX on android.

Another good option to consider, thank you.

I store the database on my nextcloud server, and access it through the apps from my devices. Works well.

I actually run a nextcloud server, so I’ll give that a shot, thanks!

keepassxc for all desktops/laptops, Keepass2Android for mobile, syncing to locally hosted Nextcloud instance. Yubikey for 2fa security. Wireguard VPN for remote access/syncing when off the local network.

Bitwarden for me. Moved over from 1Password a couple years ago and pretty happy with it.

I use Password Store + Git + GPG, but I don’t recommend for non-tech-savvy people. If you want something less technical, Bitwarden has kinda worked with my family.

Lesspass. It doesn’t remember a list of passwords - it generates them on the spot. So it’s a slightly different model that’s IMO easier to use and more secure.

Can’t reset master password unless you change all passwords with it :/

I guess that’s true. Why would you ever change your matter password though?

What do you use for password management?

KeePassXC. I keep my database stored locally and use unison to sync it.

Tangentially, what do recommend to less tech-savvy people?

KeePassXC. Independence from “the cloud” should be encouraged.

I’m into KeePass2 shared via SyncThing between Desktop and Android.

Also the browser builtin stuff for non-critical ones in addition.

I personally use unix pass with rofi as well as an android companion. my passwords are synchronized via git. to everyone saying KeePass, what is the appeal? I moved from bitwarden to get out of a cloud. I didn’t know about KeePass at the time.
