No worry about quality when you only get one topic to enjoy for the day.
Maybe stop subscribing to communities about Reddit.
Not all of these kinds of posts are about Reddit. Since Lemmy is still a bit more quiet than Reddit, I find it more informative to browse All. It’s a great way to find new communities, instances or create new filters.
The problem is when the same person blasts 10 or more communities with the same post. Depending on how your Lemmy client sorts posts, you may see all of those posts in a row.
I am all about spreading information far and wide, but I really try and submit posts to the most relevant communities. World news may be the only exception to that rule, since it can apply to many places.
I think it will take a little while before people adjust to the way lemmy works. It was fairly good practice to repost in multiple communities to spread info on reddit. The way federation works, this isn’t strictly necessary anymore
Yep. The cool part is, is that we are defining “how it works” now. I don’t mean that in a negative way, at all! Have fun kids! Try to make rules that prevent other people from getting killed and I think we can all get along.
You can also block Reddit News communities so you can still find new communities on all.
And stop browsing All
Except I like browsing All. Well, I did on Reddit. It’s not like I’m gonna subscribe to funny@lemmy.world
I just saw it on three different technology communities and two news communities on different instances.
On my main account (this is my alt while startrek.website purges the intake manifold) I just blocked the bots that repost reddit shit, and I go to different instances, find their local communities and sub. My lemmy is fricking vibrant.
You’re subbed to snoopocalypse and reddit: What did you expect?
Or maybe they just browse All.
Like someone mentioned, I was just browsing All.
I have no idea what you all are talking about, if you go to hot, subscribed and 12 hour, there’s usually plenty of content. If there isn’t, then go to another instance’s “all” that you may have been defederated from or populates their front page with other sites. There’s plenty out there.
Is this an app-specific issue?
I’ve seen a few references to this in the last couple of days, but I don’t see it myself. On Firefox (and presumably on any browser) I just see one version of a crossposted thread, with a note at the bottom that links to the crossposts.
It would be tricky to stop duplication since it silences other instances.
It would be cool to simply collapse them underneath the one with the most discussion/replies to show an instance URL back link.
Tricky or not, that’s what Lemmy already does, by default.
I’m not sure how it prioritizes it, but what I see, in (mobile) Firefox, is a single version of a thread woth links to the crosspost(s) at the bottom.
So this doesn’t appear to be a Lemmy issue, but an issue with whatever app(s) people are using.
Not in the API. They’re returned as separate items.
Yeah I haven’t noticed this on my app either. Or maybe I scrolled past it? But not sure what part of the endpoint other apps could modify for this duplication to occur.
I wonder if they are pulling the cross posts somehow and just inserting it into the feed.
Might be. I only use Sync on Android, so I’ve not seen how it is on other platforms.
Sync Dev here.
Can you check Vs what you see in the browser?
I’m not doing anything to the sort order / filtering duplicate posts.
It’s too late to check with the reddit news, but I see another example with Baldurs Gate horny companions article from eurogamer showing up from both beehaw and sh.just.works, so looks to me like it happens in the browser as well.
I’m not yet sure how to tell if something has been crossposted or just the same link submitted twice, if that makes any difference.
This is not a Sync issue, this is how you’ve set your interests and then the chance they come in grouped. That’s a lemmy thing.
I think that’s a sync issue as I’ve never had this issue before. However, if I go to browse similar communities I see virtually identical posts in the communities just not in my subscribed, local or all feeds.
Seems like a sync issue
Reddit sucks.
Consider ritualistic suicide of your old account

Reddit isn’t as empty as Lemmy tho (yet)
