Sure but still most were homophobe and i think a lot of army guys can be gay and still be homophobic cause that was the norm. As a side story, ever heard of the war hero alan turner? The inventor of the first (mechanical) computer, literally saved millions of lives. Killed because he was gay.

His name was Alan Turing. He was chemically castrated, not killed. Though there’s serious question as to whether his death was suicide driven by induced dysphoria or an accident and if it was an accident if the chemical castration resulted in him being less present than he otherwise would be (his friends said he wouldn’t make the mistake that resulted in his death on accident, but that’s fitting with the psychological effects of gender dysphoria)

Also he had an immense number of achievements in computation including the Turing machine (not a literal machine), and modern computation is built on his work. His biggest war contribution was that he defeated the German Enigma machine in an undetectable way.

The mechanical computer was invented by Charles Babbage in the 1800s. However the first computer programs were devised by his student, Ada Lovelace. Incidentally her father was the poet and playwright Lord Byron, who incidentally was absolutely bisexual and likely would’ve identified as trans had he been alive in a time period where that was an identity he was aware he could claim.

Sorry I’m an engineer with a love of queer history

No thank you for adding to it! I was just saying it out of memory from years ago. Real interesting history overall and thank you for correcting and adding to my knowledge.
