I guess switching to an alternative OS is a matter of keeping your device alive then.

Bewildering mess is accurate. My daughter has a 4a. They took her perfectly good battery and toasted it, now it fully drains in about 20 minutes. The solution? They’ll pay for a repair… 150 miles from my house, or send me $50… Through Payoneer??? Or give me $100 credit to the Google store where the cheapest phone is $500. Oh or I can send it in to Google where it will take a full month at least to get the phone back to her. The new batteries are all on backorder so even if I replace it myself she has to put up with this issue for an indeterminate amount of time.

Even better, I made an appointment and the 200 mile drive to uBreakiFix to have my son’s battery replaced, and only when I got there did they tell me not only are the batteries on back order, so are the screens because according to them, they have to be replaced every time too.

Thanks for fucking telling me before I spent an entire day on that trip…

When I took my pixel 8 pro to ubreakifix they told me they don’t fix them there at all… They just send it to Google. Why would I ever go there if I could just send it to Google myself? It’s such a stupid place to have as an official warranty provider

I’m gonna go ahead and say what we all think and know to be true. This is Apples fault. Fully and completely. It’s as plain has day. And i will downvote and persecute any one that dares to do call us out on this.

Plain as day how? The controversy Apple had was throttling processors in phones with aging batteries so they wouldn’t randomly shut down under load. That’s not even close to the same thing as purposely pushing an update you know will basically brick phones. Apple was actually attempting to extend the life of older devices not make them useless. I’m not saying Apple handled it correctly, but this is plain as day not the same thing.

There was a troll that came into the comments, loudly screaming at everyone that we were all deluded Google fanboys who were surely going to downvote this to oblivion and leap to Google’s defense, and blame Apple. They were not deterred when no one did that, and also they called me a Republican for some reason.

They’ve now been banned and their content deleted, leaving Iceman’s surreal comment as the only remnant. But without the thing it’s satirizing, it’s just a bizarre and wrong comment on its own. Iceman is not serious, they’re just making fun of the troll.

Google support staff have suggested to more than one 4a owner that yet another future update could force a factory reset and automatic update.

I find this confusing because I upgraded from that model after they discontinued updates for the 4a about a year ago
