Where have you been? Seems like I can never find you when I need to.
If they’d used binary with 5 options (
‾ _ | / \
) for 4 positions, they could have gone up to 2^20 = ~1 million…I don’t see a zero.
The other poster got you, but also European mathematics didn’t really use zero in medieval times. The idea of zero only made it to Europe in the 11th century, but took a long time to become widely adopted.
Now I have memories from trying to figure out the alphabet in Tunic…
