I don’t know why, but I had a gut feeling this was going to be a deprecation announcement and that this was all a ploy to get everyone into 365.

No no, that was a very reasonable assumption. I’m still not ruling out MS pulling that shit at some point.
It’s still a subscription though, which is basically the same thing.
