Loblaws is the largest grocery conglomerate in Canada. Its owner, Galen Weston Jr., the chairman and CEO of George Weston Limited, a holdings company that owns so much shit in Canada. And also executive chairman and president of Loblaws Companies Limited.
Weston jr is the figurehead of food price inflation in Canada. He’s basically responsible for starting the trend and everybody else followed.
Food insecurity has become a serious problem if Canada and food banks have been solicited like never before since the pandemic.
This is doing to be a hot topic issue in the next federal elections. But already, Loblaws lobbyists are already courting the main party leaders to ensure they don’t do anything to decrease the control they have on the food industry and the profits they make.
It’s disgusting. I approve of this steal from Loblaws day. But it shouldn’t be limited to Loblaws. This should be every major grocery store like Metro and IGA.
Sure. I don’t know why Sobey’s gets off the hook.
Some time ago, we lived in a place where the only grocery was Sobeys. Now that we’ve moved to a place with half a dozen options around - chain and independent alike - the grocery bill is down 30%.
Sobeys doesn’t exist in my town anymore
Even way before this price gouging I always found them wildly expensive.
Damn they were the cheap option growing up for me
It’s not stealing.
It is returning to us what was stolen.
Also, the Weston family live in a literal castle that was built for the royal family.
To the gallows with them.
Everyone should go the day before, they’ll see it coming on the 12th.
Its* owner,
Thank you. Autocorrect got the best of me.
So the CEO of Loblaws (the parent company that owns most of the grocery chains/stores in Canada) has very explicitly been engaged in price-fixing of groceries.
These people are stealing from us. It is correct to steal from them.
I’m what I would describe as Loosely Christian. I still think it’s correct and fair to steal from these state sanctioned thieves.
IDK about Canada but here in the US I gotta say that it is technically not theft because corporations are NOT people, despite the Lies of the Law.
Just this morning I read an article posted to Lemmy about an effort to hold a boycott against Loblaws and the difficulties of boycotting what is basically a monopoly for an essential service (in many places lacking competition, or where the competition is pulling the same shit, it wouldn’t be a boycott so much as a hunger strike). Looks like someone found a way around that conundrum!
I switched to the local international grocery and Longo’s. At least then I’m supporting small business. I am at an advantage living in a large city with local options which many don’t have, but it’s honestly working well.
Longo’s is owned by Sobeys now 🤷🏻♂️
T&T is owned by Loblaw…
How the fuck did this happen? Bring back knobhill farms!
Blue Sky in duram is independently owned AFAIK, plz correct me if I am wrong
Oh fuck me I did not know. Fuck. Starsky’s it is then.
Capitalism stans: competition means the prices have to reach a fair value.
Capitalist grocery: [purchasing all the smaller groceries at a fair value]

For a moment, I thought this was a marketing gag from the chain. How can I be so naive?
You don’t ask questions about “Project Mayhem.”
Someone grab a few bags of ‘Ketchup Chips’… I’ll provide a shipping address and throw you a few $$.
All dressed are better
Well, I need a taste test. Grab some.
10/10 would steal some for you.
Nice
Damn I’m late. I’ll start tomorrow.
We’re picking which laws we break, now? That’s gonna go well. Please make sure to youtube it as a warning to others.
Dumb twat. Ever drive 36mph in the 35 speed limit zone? I bet you’ve done much worse.
