How long until we see Russia abducting troops from Niger for their war in Ukraine? They’re doing it with the Cubans as well.

The article mentions that West African countries are increasingly getting closer to Russia, and it points out that the military junta is in place after a successful coup of the former president. So… It’s very likely Russia will.

Regardless, if it is the true will of the people for the US to leave, we should leave. I fear it’s the wrong decision for them to make, but they are a sovereign country and can make that decision.

I don’t disagree with you at all, I’m just reminded of the old adage “The grass is always greener on the other side”

I don’t think military juntas express the will of the people, ever.

But, then again, what’s the worst that can happen? They erect a Russia-backed fascist state that genocides the religious or ethnic minority of the week?

Yeah that’s my concern. The first time I read the headline I went “Well, that’s their choice to make and we should respect it.” But then I noticed the whole military junta part, and that they had overthrown the president. I don’t think we can say without fair elections if the people actually want the US to leave. I wouldn’t be surprised actually if they don’t want the US to leave in light of the military takeover.

I get the grim feeling that the military junta has struck a deal to send conscripts to Russia in return for aid and closer diplomatic relations. Which is all kinds of fucked up.
