Give the devs credit, there’s probably one legitimate competitor to Baldurs Gate in there that’ll get 70% through development before Hasbro kills because they need that money to pay for more Pinkertons to threaten to kill some children’s card game reviewers

Damn. I was excited before entering this post. But you’re probably right.

      Thanks buzzkill.

      Jk.

I think it’s much more likely they have 39 wastes of energy that will be sent to the void in the near future, and one chance to make something of value. At least based on what I’ve seen from these organizations in the past.

Someone’s eager to have another BG3 on their hands. Given Hasbro’s recent moves it wouldn’t surprise me if half of these ended up being cancelled and other half were trying to squeeze as much money out of players as possible. Hasbro thinks D&D is an “under-monetized” brand after all.

I think BG3 was such a hit because a) it released right around the time when D&D has become mainstream and b) it was iterated on for years in Early Access before being fully released.

I have a feeling that very few of these “40” upcoming games will hit the same chords as BG3.

Lol I think they saw the success of BG3 and credited their own IP instead of the quality of Larian Studios. Without WotC BG3 would still have been an amazing game. Without Larian, it’d be unrecognizable.

      I agree.

But to be fair, they’re not looking to make great videogames, they’re looking to make video games that make profit. If they have the IP and just slap 40 in the works, probability says that some might make the entire thing profitable, as long as you keep costs down. (Exploit cheap labour and AI tools prolly.)

I just hope one or two of them ends up being playable.

One of these I know is a sci-fi RPG called Exodus, it’s got the director from KOTOR and a bunch of old BioWare devs, and apparently Matthew McConaughey is a voice actor. It’s supposed to be like Mass Effect, but bigger, so I’m looking forward to it.

I mean, it got announced last year and has an impressive looking trailer, and a website with a pre-register thing, so it doesn’t look like anyone’s planning on pulling it. However, the developer’s site does have eight job openings pretty overtly advertised on the front page, so we’ll see lol

It’ll likely launch, but it’ll probably be disappointing. So temper your expectations. Hasbro and WotC love fleecing their customers for money, so expect some kind of predatory monetization model.

I watch Magic and that’s it. Why? Because the game is too damn expensive.

And no 4 player Commander except on the client that is built on Windows 95 technology.

If you just wanna watch, I’m sure they wouldn’t mind an audience at your local FNM, or maybe your LGS has a Commander night! But yeah, that’s why I quit lol

If Paizo can sustain 3 games based on Pathfinder/Golarion, WotC can sustain 40 based on D&D/Forgotten Realms. Will any of them be any good? Ehh

They should license the IP to Paradox for a Crusader Kings set in Faerun/Toril
