In this mock, Fields is QB2 (as he always should have been) to San Francisco after the Jets take Micah Parsons @2. I’ll never understand how Zach Wilson and Trey Lance were taken over Fields, but I’m glad they were!
Completely agreed, I have no idea how time and time again the experts over think these things.
The short memory of the league is great. First five games of the season Fields and Lawrence were both busts. Next five games Fields was the best QB of the '21 draft. Then Lawrence finishes strong and he’s finally arrived as the franchise QB. I’m not saying he won’t be, but that wasn’t the narrative for his rookie season nor the first half of last season.
Not to mention the first half of that playoff game where he threw 3? 4? interceptions… we don’t talk about that.
Also situation matters - can you imagine Fields on that 49ers team? They have a great roster despite burning 3 first rounders on a guy who hasn’t played at all. Put Fields with that OL and those weapons and that defense and they’d be Super Bowl favorites.
People saw that one throw Wilson made at his pro day and some other highlights from BYU and bought the hype. It’s crazy that Fields was able to beat a Clemson defense with broken ribs yet dropped so much. Happy he did obviously
If I’m honest I liked Wilson as a prospect… when we were picking at 20. Not at #2! Turns out even that would have been too high.
I think Wilson is talented too for sure, just needed a lot more time to develop than the Jets gave him. I agree 20 was probably the correct landing spot (if not very early 2nd) with a half decent roster and a bridge qb. It would have dependent on his attitude which im not too convinced on tbh
