he pleaded not guilty. and his lawyer said this is “an attack on america”.

'cause he had boxes of papers he wasn’t supposed to have, that this is an attack on america? yeah, okay 🙄

I work with many people who are so upset over this, calling it injustice and how horrible that we choose to prosecute Trump when we should instead be jailing Hillary, Harris, and Biden.

I bite my tongue and don’t say anything but it’s so frustrating.

As far as Hillary goes I am not sure why Trump’s DoJ didn’t hand down an indictment if it had evidence that she ultimately committed a crime? I guess the same is true for Hunter.

To my knowledge and I am prefacing this with I could be wrong. In order to charge Hillary for the email incident they would have had to prove either Intent or Gross negligence and when it came down to Hillary I dont think the Doj had anything along the lines of these two factors, whereas trump and they even qoute him, hes talking about how the information is still classified but yada yada this happened, that fills the intent part and then for the gross negligence part they talk about how they found the boxes of files just strewn about everywhere in the club.

Feel free to correct me, this is just my understanding.

oh yeah! thank you for saying that :) trump had the doj under his control and still didn’t have enough evidence to indict her. i would think that would shut up the “jail hillary and joe” crowd, but i guess they have super short term memory

same here. i’m all for treating everyone as equal, but i’m pretty sure nothing new came up after hillary was already investigated and iirc biden was slapped on the wrist for not returning some documents. but hey, you know, one box is the same as rooms full of boxes, apparently

The difference seems to me, as far as I know (please correct me if I have missed something) is that Biden and related parties cooperated with getting the documents returned while Trump hid and tried to erase evidence that he had them. And I believe that some have yet to be found, potentially sold off.

his lawyer said this is “an attack on america”.

I’m wondering if the lawyers who quit did so because they were too embarrassed to say shit like that in court, despite a certain client’s demands.

Biden returned the documents before they even know they were gone and he was the one who told them he had them. Trump refused to return the documents when they were requested back and he is caught on tape admitting to knowing he wasn’t supposed to have them. Also he asked his lawyers to destroy evidence.

Huge difference between a crime with someone cooperating and someone who tries to destroy evidence. Also the content of trump’s documents seem like they’re higher level and more highly classified.

This is a bigger deal. Telling authorities you don’t have top secret classified documents at your residence and allowing them to search certain rooms and then having them come back later with a warrant and finding them hidden in a bathroom (that they weren’t allowed into originally) is really really bad.

It makes his other charge of using campaign donations for personal reasons look like jaywalking.

He was processed in New York, too. I’m going to guess that he’s going to go through this process at least once more (in Georgia). I don’t think he’ll need to be fingerprinted and processed again if there are other federal charges while these are pending, but charges related to Jan. 6 might change his bail or conditions of release.

This is the biggest deal, imo. Having nuclear secrets, audio of him admitting he was breaking the law - and the public knowing about that, to me says they have much more ammo they’ll be bringing to light in trial. I think he’s screwed. I don’t want to hold my breath, but this seems like it will really take him down.

    A little on a tangent here but…

I’m guessing News and WorldNews will, again and like in Reddit, be actually USANews. Let’s see what the fediverse and instances do bring to that issue.

That would probably depend on which instance you’re using.

Unless I’m misunderstanding how this all works.

That’s my understanding. The only challenge is searching for news communities but not knowing where the instance is geographically.

I’m sure it will sort itself out over time.

The fact is that the whole world is addicted to US news and everyone wants to know what happens to Trump. Like it or not, the US is still the country that everyone else looks to, even if it’s just to shit on it.

I hope so too, but even if he does go to prison, remember, Hitler did too. And then became Chancellor of Germany.

I’m afraid we will be dealing with Trump until he dies peacefully of old age.

There are only 3 requirements for being/ running for POTUS:

Natural born citizen 35 years old 14 year residency in the US

In theory he could be found guilty, still elected and serve from a federal jail cell.

I’d like to see him manage to wiggle his way out of this one. I’m not American so I’m not familiar with the systems in place and all, but from everything I’ve seen, well… it’s not looking good for him. At all.

But honestly, with Trump legendary incompetence and ability to keep on digging his own grave, I’m barely here for the politics, this is just good entertainment at this point. Even if I know that while this is funny, this will probably be remembered as anything but.

I don’t think he can actually get out of this one, but he can still litigate it to hell and back. It will depend on which judges his various challenges land in front of and what their capacity for his bullshit is. But he’s 77 and eats garbage and doesn’t exercise. Very real possibility he just croaks before he ever sees the inside of a cell.
