Technology@lemmy.world•The Ofcom Tea Party: 4Chan Lawyer publishes Ofcom correspondence, British regulator claims “sovereign immunity” to defend itself – and sovereign powers to regulate foreign companiesEnglish
22·4 个月前It’s not ‘inconvenience at best’. The vast majority of people won’t use a VPN, so it will be a loss of revenue. Even if you are willing to pay for a VPN (or daft enough to use a free one), it’s an inconvenience as using a VPN can have side effects, such as other things getting blocked unexpectedly, or cause websites to redirect you to the local version in the country of your VPN server.

5·6 个月前How does that work? I thought these shells need to be fired before they are armed. If not, handling them seems very dangerous

Global News@lemmy.zip•US to end shipping loophole for Chinese goods FridayEnglish
1·10 个月前In addition to ordering directly from china not avoiding the tariffs: it may not even be possible. Some (smaller) companies simply won’t ship to USA anymore due to the hassle of having to deal with the admin.

World News@lemmy.world•EU fines Apple 500M euros, Meta 200M euros for breaking competition rules | CBC NewsEnglish
6·10 个月前It’s a warning, with the aim of getting them to comply with EU rules. Not a punishment to put them out of business. But repeat offenders can get repeat fines, up to 10% of global revenue (not profits) which is not a cost of business most companies can ignore.
Upvote for your efforts to share facts, but I really don’t need that many words to convince me that Trump is talking shit, again.

241·11 个月前Trump does not have the cards to force a peace deal, or the skills to negotiate one. Ukraine and Putin are simply too far apart to meet in the middle.

Global News@lemmy.zip•France shares intelligence with Ukraine amid ‘morally detestable’ US aid cutoff, says French ministerEnglish
2·11 个月前Wait what? Did he call US actions morally detestable? How undiplomatic. We need more of that.

I’m no expert on this, but that reads like a one sided take on the issue-which is more political than financial, with many asset seizures in response to US embargo’s, condemned by UN, rather than the other way round
