Tesla drivers say they have been locked out of their cars after an outage struck the carmaker’s app.
Dozens of owners posted on social media about seeing an error message on the mobile app that was preventing them from connecting to their vehicles.
This will happen to banks as well as more and more people have their credit cards on their phone.
Thanks I prefer cash it even works if there is no power.
Edit: I changed the title, the BBC implies that all or near all drivers couldn’t start their car but it’s just those who start it with the app.

Teslas also have an RFID card that functions as a backup key. IMO, just keep that in your wallet next to your driver’s license, even if you use your phone normally.
I think what he meant was more about letting the user choose instead of imposing arbitrary proprietary standards that don’t have the user benefits in mind but the companies interests.
Twenty plus years ago, when appliances came out that replaced the stove top - electric stand-alone pressure cookers, coffee makers, tea kettles, woks, rice cookers- an article came out that said what a waste of money that was if the electrical or mechanical parts went bad and that you’d not be able to cook or have coffee/tea if the power went out. I thought that wise. Not putting all of your eggs in one basket, because flexibility is the smarter way to go. Starting your car with an app and having that be the only way…no no no no no. Older cars (all, idk) came with a tool to close the sunroof in case your car’s battery died or the parts that made the thing close automatically went bad. You always need a plan B or more.
Tesla’s cars come with a plan B, a card I think. But some people don’t carry it I guess.

To be fair, I don’t think the car would turn off if it lost connection with the phone while driving. At least I hope not.
