You’re assuming Elon’s goal is to actually run it as a broad social networking platform. What if his goal is to drive all the Liberals away and make it a safe space for racists and fascists? Then it makes more sense.
There’s a reason why conservative “free speech” platforms never work:
- You need ads in order to pay for your company costs.
- You need content moderation in order to get ads.
- Content moderation drives off “free speech” users.
- Website dies from lack of funds.
Elon could totally float the company, but it’ll be a massive money pit overtime. They are shedding users (over 10% since the takeover) and ad revenue, and once there’s a viable alternative, there will likely be a much larger Exodus, similar to what happened to Myspace users moving to Facebook.
