it seems that working from home is better than working in another place
WHAT? Who could’ve possibly predicted that being comfortable while working and being able to take more breaks might increase productivity?? No, this can’t be true. It’s probably the lazy millennials who just don’t want to work.
Thank you. I don’t see enough of these articles. It’s usually the ones that say remote work = bad.
I agree, this was really refreshing to read. Mainly because it used actual data to back up the main premise.
So many articles on working from home are complete puff pieces citing nothing but quotes from executives. And it seems to never fail that the executives in question have ties to commercial real estate investments.
Yeah the company I work for is trying to bring everyone back because the new VP is some old boomer era guy that “doesn’t believe people can be productive from home.” Well over half my team is going to leave or will have to leave because we were all hired with the assumption we would be remote permanently. We are also one of the hardest working and most productive teams here. It also happens that our company is owned by Blackstone… So I’m sure there’s other reasons behind them wanting to all of sudden buy/rent some off-site office space…
No shit. Let’s see, WFH in IT:
Get up at 8:30 Have breakfast without hurry Turn on the computer Work 8 hours, plus 20 minutes lunch break Turn computer off Make supper for the partner
Meanwhile working from office right now, same job, same position, different company:
Get up at 6:30 at the latest Force myself to swallow breakfast in under 30 minutes Get to the bus stop (through sleet or rain or what have you) Ride 40+ minutes Switch bus, because there are no direct routes Ride 20-30 more minutes Work 8 hours plus lunch break Ride back home for 1-1.5 hours
And it’s on a normal day. Today it snowed so the first half of the route took 50 minutes, standing. And that’s just me, several people in my division alone live much further away. Some even live in the satellite towns outside the city and need to use appropriate transportation.
No shit people work better from home!
