      I’m pretty sure this particular story is just cover for why Blinken can’t go to China. He invited himself and Chinese never confirmed, so this is a perfect way to safe face for him.

        I thought so too, he was probably quietly informed he’s not welcome and needed a pretext to call off the visit he announced loudly before. Kinda funny how the head of foreign affairs of USA don’t even know it’s good to ask the host before a visit. Even funnier would be if he went there and was not allowed to get off the plane, or better yet, allowed into the country but kiss every government doorknob.
